02Rother Valley Golf Centre

A fantastic 18 hole golf club right on your doorstep. Rother Valley Golf Centre includes a fantastic 18 hole course, a 9 hole course, a driving range and even a Footgolf course. The centre also includes a restaurant and bar with stunning views of the 18th and the Valley.

Adjoined to Gulliver’s Valley is Rother Valley Country Park. Opened in 1983 as a recreational area.  There are several lakes for water sports including a water ski tow. Cycling and walking around the lakes are a delight whatever the season.  Children’s play areas and picnic sites make it a great place for families to enjoy .  The visitors centre has exhibitions and a nice cafe

04Yorkshire Wildlife Park

An amazing day out for grand kids.  The Wildlife Park is the place to see lions, tigers, black rhino and even Polar Bears.  Many have been rescued from poorly managed zoos around the world.  Here you will see conservation in action.  Advertised as the UK’s No. 1 walk- through wildlife adventure.  Well worth a visit.

07Clumber Park

Clumber Park was once the estate of the Dukes of Newcastle. The 3,000 acres of forest, heath and parkland are now looked after by the National Trust.  If you want some great walks in nature or family bike trails, then this is a brilliant place to visit. For those who like to run there are miles of woodland trails to train along.

08The Peak District

Gulliver’s Valley is so close to the Peak District.  Here you will find miles of beautiful Pennine hills to explore.  The southern part is known as the ‘White’ Peak because of the underlying limestone rock.  Beyond Sheffield is the ‘Dark’ Peak with its heather covered moors and gritstone outcrops.  For those who want walking and activity this is a walkers paradise.

09Wentworth Woodhouse

Wentworth Woodhouse was built with money made from the coal beneath Rotherham and Barnsley   It was the seat of the Fitzwilliam family who became one the wealthiest families in Britain at the height of the industrial revolution. It is a truly astonishing Grade 1 listed building with the longest façade of any country house in England.  There is limited opening hours for the house but the Parkland can be walked at any time.  Take the opportunity to visit the adjacent garden centre to catch a glimpse of the walled gardens.

10Magna Science and Adventure Centre

Magna is housed in the old Templeborough steel works.  Your visit will give a sense of the history of steel making in South Yorkshire.  Magna is a wonderful hands-on museum, packed with interactive exhibits.  The 4 pavilions Air , Earth, Fire and Water will amaze everyone. Tip:  The fire tornado is jaw dropping!  It’s also very close to Meadowhall

11Meadowhall Shopping Centre

For retail therapy, restaurant, cinema and entertainment then Meadowhall has it all.  It is a vast shopping mall with lots of free parking. Tram connections will take you into Sheffield and Rotherham

12Barnsley Metrodome

Barnsley Metrodome is a brilliant leisure swimming complex near to the football ground in Barnsley. It has the Calypso Cove Waterpark with flumes, slides and even waves.   A top place to take children who love water.

13Ponds Forge Swimming

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is right in the heart of Sheffield City centre and only a 25 minute drive from Rother Valley.  Built for the World Student Games there is a 50-meter swimming pool for those that love lane swimming.  The leisure pools with slides is great for children. Always check opening times because there are sometimes special swim events at weekends.  During the week you can often have a lane to yourself!

14Kelham Island Museum

Situated in one of the trendiest parts of Sheffield the museum stands on an ancient man-made island in the river Don. The star attraction is the mighty River Don Engine which was used to roll steel plate for battleships. It is fired up several times a day to give visitors a glimpse of its huge power. It is a brilliant museum giving a real insight into Sheffield’s industrial past.

Kelham island has several real ale pubs and breweries.  There are several nice cafes and restaurants hidden away to be discovered by those who care to look.

15Yorkshire Sculpture Park

About 20 minutes North on the M1 at Bretton you will find Yorkshire Sculpture Park.  This is an absolute gem.  It is one of the world’s leading open-air galleries.  (Ok there are also some indoor exhibitions).  You will find sculptures by Hepworth and Henry Moor dotted around a beautiful parkland setting. It is both great for a walk and exciting for kids to run around.  The Park cafes are also worth a visit.

16Hepworth Wakefield

The Hepworth Wakefield is 30 minutes up the M1 just beyond Yorkshire Sculpture Park.  Sited near the centre of Wakefield overlooking the river Calder. It is named after local artist Barbara Hepworth one of the greatest artists of the 20 Century. The museum won Art Fund Museum of the year in 2017 and is regularly voted among the top museums each year. So close to Gulliver’s and a brilliant place to visit

17Cannon Hall and Cannon Hall Farm

Cannon Hall is super for children.  The park is ideal for running about and playing on the grass.  Attached to the park is Cannon Hall Farm.  This working farm is great for seeing farm animals.  Go and see the baby lambs in springtime.  Great farm shop as well

18Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

The industrial museum is often visited by TV programmes.  Here you can see how Sheffield became an world leading industrial centre.  This was the Abbeydale works which produced agricultural tools and scythes in the 18th Century.  See waterwheels, tilt hammers and the last remaining crucible steel furnace in the UK

19Elsecar Heritage Centre

Elsecar is a delight.  The visitors centre houses exhibitions of Elsecar’s industrial past. Alongside which there are interesting craft workshops, artists studios and an antiques centre.  There are also beautiful canal-side walks and a children’s indoor play centre.  Great place for all the family

RSPB Dearne Valley – Old Moor

Not far from Gulliver’s is the RSPB reserve at Old Moor in the Dearne Valley.  Here you can walk the trails around the reserve and observe the lakes teeming with wildlife.  Top place for cake in their café.

21World Class Theatre at Sheffield Theatres

Crucible and Lyceum Theatres are best known for the staging of the World Snooker Championships each year.  The 2 theatres are in the centre of Sheffield and are home to extensive and varied programme throughout the year.  There are lots of great restaurants in the locale if you want to dine before or after a show.  Sheffield Peace Gardens is well worth a look while you are there
